The week-long MTB Mymensingh Divisional Tennis Tournament begins today at the National Tennis Complex in Dhaka and the Mymensingh Club in Mymensingh, simultaneously.

A total of 337 players, divided into open and senior sections, are competing in this tournament, which is jointly organised by the Bangladesh Tennis Federation and the Mymensingh Club, sponsored by Mutual Trust Bank PLC.


All events in the senior sections – senior 35 plus, senior 45 plus, senior 55 plus – are scheduled to be held at the Mymensingh Club.

The semi-finals and finals of the open section events - men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles – will be played at the Mymensingh Club venue after the participants play the quarter-finals at the National Tennis Complex.

The winners of the open section will receive Tk 281000 as prize money.

Players from 21 sports organisations - Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, Police Club, American Club, National Tennis Complex, Dhanmondi Sporting Club, Army Officers’ Club, Navy Club, International Club, Madaripur Tennis Club, German Club, Brahmanbaria District Sports Association, Masa Tennis Academy, Nordic Club, Pro Tennis Academy Dhaka, Gopalganj Tennis Club, Thakurgaon Station Club, Khulna Club, Jhalokati Tennis Club, Rajshahi’s Advocate Abdus Salam Tennis Complex, District Tennis Club Magura, Dhaka Officers’ Club — and several other players from Dhaka and Mymensingh Division are taking part in this tournament.

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, youth and sports ministry adviser, inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest at the National Tennis Complex on Friday.

Chowdhury Akhtar Asif, additional managing director of Mutual Trust Bank, was present at the event as a special guest.

Among those present at the inaugural ceremony were Ashrafuzzaman Khan (Puton), vice president of the Bangladesh Tennis Federation and member-in-charge of the BTF tournament sub-committee; Ishtiaq Ahmed, general secretary of the BTF; along with other BTF executive committee members and officials.
