The committee of the Taltali upazila unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League in Barguna was declared dissolved after an offensive video of an upazila BCL leader with a woman went viral.

Through a circular signed by the president and general secretary of the Barguna District Chhatra League, the decision was made early Wednesday.

Earlier in a viral video, Taltali upazila BCL secretary Minhajul Abedin Mithu was seen in a room with a woman in an offensive position.

At that time, one of the people accompanying Minhajul, including Minhajul himself, allegedly recorded a video of them on a mobile phone and later shared it on social media.

When this incident created a stir in the district, the Barguna district Chhatra League issued a press statement.

The statement announced the dissolution of the committee stating that its tenure expired.

Kamruzzaman Bachchu Mia, chairman of Taltali upazila’s Nishanbaria union parishad, meanwhile, filed a case under the Pornography Act against the woman whose video went viral on social media.

Taltali Upazila Chhatra League general secretary Minhajul Abedin Mithu could not be reached for his comment in this regard despite repeated attempts over the phone.

Barguna District Chhatra League president Rezaul Kabir Reza said that the decision was announced after a video went viral on social media.

Central Chhatra League will also take organisational action against Minhajul Abedin Mithu if the authenticity of the video is proved, the BCL leader said.

In the leaked video, however, Taltali upazila parishad chairman Rezbi-ul-Kabir, Nishanbaria union parishad chairman Kamruzzaman Bachchu, and Paccha Kodalia union chairman Abdur Razzak were seen with BCL leader Mithu and a woman.

Local sources said that the woman was acquainted with Taltali Nishanbaria union chairman Kamruzzaman Bachchu and Taltali upazila parishad chairman Rezbi-ul-Kabir.

According to the case statement, they planned to go on a pleasure trip by a launch with Minhajul and later the offensive video of their departing time was recorded and circulated.

The police arrested the woman and a man named Zahidul Islam Sabuj and sent them to jail after the case was filed by Nishanbaria union chairman Kamruzzaman Bachchu.

Sabuj’s wife Meherun Mim claimed that her husband was detained and taken away on the afternoon of Eid.
