Police could neither arrest anyone nor trace the accused in a case filed over the rape of a seven-year-old Rohingya girl at a shelter in Bhasan Char of Noakhali on Monday.

Bhasan Char Police Station officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said on Wednesday that they could not arrest or identify anyone involved in the alleged rape.

They were trying to identify and catch the accused, the OC added.

The girl was undergoing treatment at 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital.

The hospital’s residential surgeon Syed Anwarul Azim said that the girl’s condition improved.

The incident took place on Monday and she was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.

The child’s father filed the case with Bhasan Char police station accusing one unidentified person.

She was playing with other children in the 14th cluster area on Monday.

At about 11:30am, an unidentified man lured the child to a deserted room and raped her.

Another Rohingya child found the girl unconscious in the room and informed her family.

The victim’s father rescued and rushed her to Bhasan Char General Hospital and later shifted to Noakhali General Hospital.

The child told her family that she would be able to recognise the rapist if she saw him.

The government has so far relocated about 18,000 Rohingyas to Bhasan Char from the camps in Cox’s Bazar.
