A Dhaka court today sent singer Mainul Ahsan Noble to jail in connection with a rape case
A Dhaka court today sent singer Mainul Ahsan Noble to jail in connection with a rape case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Zia Uddin Ahmed passed the order after investigation officer Murad Hossain, also inspector (investigation) of Demra Police Station, produced him before the court, seeking his confinement in jail, said a court staffer.
The court also rejected a petition seeking Noble's bail.
Around 2:50pm, Noble was escorted to a courtroom of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court for a hearing.
He was seen wearing a police helmet and bulletproof vest, with his hands cuffed behind his back.
Soon after he entered the dock, police removed his helmet. After that, the handcuffs behind his back were also unlocked. One end of the handcuffs, still on his right hand, was then fastened to the iron railing of the dock.
At one stage, he said he was feeling hot and asked to remove the bulletproof jacket. But police refused to do so.
After the hearing, Noble was taken back to the lockup of the CMM Court around 3:15pm.
A female student filed the case accusing Noble today.
In the case statement, she alleged that Nobel abducted and raped her.
The victim was sent to a hospital in Dhaka.
Police arrested the singer from Sarulia at Dhaka's Demra area.
