Chittagong University student Auritraya Hasan remained missing till Monday evening after he along with two of his friends went missing on July 8 while bathing in the sea near the Himchhari beach in Cox’s Bazar amid inclement weather.

The bodies of two others CU students have already been recovered.


Mohammad Salahuddin, deputy commissioner of Cox’s Bazar, told New Age on Monday that they did not find the body of CU student Auritraya despite all-out efforts in the past seven days.

‘Our rescue operations are still going on to recover the missing student. We have asked all boats in the sea to inform us if they find the body. Beach staff members are searching along beaches,’ Salahuddin added.

Auritraya’s father Aminul Islam, also known as Sakib Hasan, a senior sub-editor at New Age, went to Cox’s Bazar hours after the incident along with his family.

The family is still in Cox’s Bazar in the hope of finding their son.

The body of missing student Sadman Rahman Sabbab, son of KM Anisur Rahman of Pallabi at Mirpur in Dhaka, was recovered about an hour after the incident on July 8. On July 9 morning, the body of another student Asif Ahmed, son of Rafiqul Islam, a resident of the Bogura town, was recovered.

All three were students of the development studies department at the Chittagong University for the 2023-24 academic year.

On July 8 morning, five CU students, including the three, went to visit Cox’s Bazar, a tourist destination, and the three went to have a bath in rough sea, according to district administration and police officials.
