The recently expelled leaders of the Jatiya Party on Thursday urged the party chairman Ghulam Muhammad Quader to hold the party’s next national conference to elect a new central committee immediately.
The group of the leaders, led by expelled senior co-chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud, held a programme at its new office in the capital’s Gulshan area held a programme where two former lawmakers of the party, Liakat Hossain Khoka and Nurul Islam Milon, joined with about 300 of their supporters.
Liakat and Nurul joined the group’s programme by handing over bouquets of flowers to Anisul.
Addressing the programme, Anisul urged the party chairman GM Quader to hold the scheduled national conference of the party soon.
Another expelled co-chairman of the party ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader and expelled secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu were also present. Anisul said that the party should run as per the party constitution and the chairman could not take decisions violating the constitution.
Jatiya Party chair GM Quader on July 7 appointed former lawmaker Shamim Haider Patwari as the party’s new secretary general, replacing Mujibul Haque Chunnu, in a sudden move that has intensified the ongoing factional feud within the party.
Shortly after the announcement of Patwari’s appointment, GM Quader also declared the removal of three senior leaders Anisul, Ruhul Amin Howlader, and Chunnu from all party posts.
