At least five people were killed and 13 other injured in road accidents in Kurigram, Narsingdi, Magura and Sylhet districts between Saturday night and Sunday evening.
New Age correspondent in Kurigram reported that a girl and an auto-rickshaw driver were killed and three others injured when a truck collided with an auto-rickshaw at Ghuntighar in Bango Sonahat union under Bhurungamari upazila on Bhurungamari-Sonahat Land Port highway on Sunday.
The victims were identified as auto-rickshaw passenger Atiqa, 15, and auto-rickshaw driver Bahar Uddin, 30, and the injured were other passengers Abu Bakar, Morsheda and Fatema.
Bhurungamari police officer-in-charge Al Helal Mahmud confirmed the incident.
In Narsingdi, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a grocery shop owner was killed after a goods-laden truck hit a battery-powered rickshaw van at Darikandi Bus Stand on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Belabo upazila on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Alkas Mia, 55, son of late Shahid Mia, of Mollah Bari in Noakandi village under Narayanpur Union.
Bhairab Highway Police sub-inspector Md Rokonuzzaman said that legal action was underway.
BSS reported that a man was killed and 10 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus of ‘Golden Line Paribahan’ and a rickshaw van in Alamkhali Ramnagar area of Sadar upazila in Magura on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as van driver Sagar Mollah, 25, son of Awal Mollah, a resident of Gauricharanpur village in Sadar upazila.
Ramnagar Highway Police sub-inspector Mahbubur Rahman said that the injured were admitted to Magura and Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.
New Age Staff correspondent in Sylhet reported that an examinee in the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate examinations died in a hospital in Sylhet on Saturday night after he was critically injured in a road accident in the afternoon.
The deceased Sufian Ahmed Saif, 18, was the only son of Selim Ahmed of Dharampur village under Moglabazar police station of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
Saif’s maternal uncle Nahid Ahmed told New Age that a speeding car collided head-on with the motorcycle on Sylhet-Fenchuganj road at Kotalpur area leaving him critically injured. He died at around 11:00pm at a hospital.
