Sayeed Hossain Chowdhury, founder chairman and chief executive officer of HRC Group, and one of the founders and former chairmen of One Bank PLC, passed away on Tuesday, at 11:10am at a private hospital in Dhaka city.

He founded HRC Group in 1991 and had grown it into a major conglomerate of the country, spanning its businesses over various sectors, including shipping, real estate, media, finance and IT, according to a press release issued by One Bank.

Sayeed Hossain also held leadership roles in several organisations, including Media New Age Limited, ISN Ltd, and BGIC, said the release.

He served One Bank as chairman in two tenures (2001–2008 and 2012–2020) and as a director in later years.

He also served as the president of the Bangladesh Ocean-Going Ship Owners Association and as the honorary consul of Spain in Bangladesh.

His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held today after Asr prayers at his Paribagh residence.
