BAF Shaheen College Kurmitola is a reputed college in Bangladesh and it is an ideal educational institution located in a pleasant environment at Bangabandhu base Dhaka Cantonment. This college has 50 years of glorious history and tradition and I am proud to be a teacher of this college and at the same time I feel happy. BAF Shaheen College Kurmitola is run under the direct supervision and competent leadership of the Bangladesh Air Force. One thing I want to make clear here is that many people understand a person to be a shaheen but in fact it is not a person, Shaheen refers to the eagle and the eagle is a symbol of the Bangladesh Air Force. BAF Shaheen College Kurmitola is one of the best colleges located in the middle of pure nature and noise-free environment of Dhaka Cantonment which has a team of skilled teachers. It is a standard and reputed educational institution run by the Bangladesh Air Force under the Ministry of Education of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Dhaka. The reputation of the college is growing steadily due to the tireless efforts of the skilled governing body, experienced teachers, students and parents. This renowned institution was established by the Bangladesh Air Force in 1972 and was then named as Air Force School. In the year 1980, this institution was renamed as BAF Shaheen School and in 1982 the institution was upgraded to Class XII and renamed BAF Shaheen College Kurmitola. Here students from KG to class XII have the opportunity to learn in a beautiful and orderly environment and the college has a glorious result in the examinations of the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Students are doing glorious results in primary and junior scholarship examinations in every year. The English version has been introduced along with the Bangla medium since 2010 and since 2015 the English version students have been participating in the regular SSC examinations and the trend of success has continued. The English version of the college branch started its journey from the 2019-20 academic year and through this the educational activities got institutional completion. The institute conducts regular cultural activities and conducts a variety of co-curricular activities to help students develop their aesthetic qualities, not just textbook boundaries. Annual sports and cultural competitions are held in the college every year and all the students get the opportunity to participate and develop their own talents. The students of this institute are bringing glorious success in sports and cultural competitions at the national level every year. The institution is completely non-political and has a wide range of facilities for its students such as a spacious library, common room, spacious field for sports, debating club, quiz club, girls guide, rover scout, BNCC and other facilities.
The college is rich in modern equipment and information technology and has its own website through which students can learn about various topics including various types of circulars, list of annual workbooks and other topics. Students' exam results and report cards are provided through Dynamic website under the Student Management System and parents are also informed about the attendance of the students through SMS. Students' tution fees and ancillary debts can be paid online through DBBL. Self-managed bus service has been introduced for the convenience of students and teachers. In this college students have the opportunity to get education through Bengali and English and girls and boys get the opportunity to get institutional education together.
The institution has about 7,000 students and more than two hundred teachers and their and their spontaneous and lively presence make this institution always prominent. The students of this institute get the opportunity to study science, business, education and humanities according to their choice and qualifications and there are five houses for conducting their co-educational activities. The college has a record of 100% pass of the students in public examinations and at the same time record of achieving maximum GPA 5. In order to enrich and accelerate the work and contribution of the teachers certificates and medals of the best teacher are awarded every year from this institution. A few years ago a multi-storied college building was erected on this campus and the building has all kinds of modern amenities, information technology connections and a huge auditorium, library and a cafeteria. There are specific uniforms and dress codes for the students prescribed by the college and there are certain rules which the students are required to abide by.
The college has a rich debating club and where students have the opportunity to engage in regular debates to develop their latent talents and the college is proud to have won debates at various times at the national level. There is a rich library in the college building and a large part of the library is decorated as Mujib corner where there are various books on Bangabandhu including liberation war. To develop the latent talents of the students, an aesthetic and rich magazine is presented every year so that the students of can write freely. The college hosts science fairs every year where students get a chance to show their new knowledge and younger students get a chance to express their scientific views. The students can show their new discoveries at this fair and as a result their knowledge is enriched on the one hand and the history, tradition and name of the college on the other. The college has rich and sophisticated computer lab, physics, chemistry and biology labs where students can take their practical education well. The spacious and well-decorated classrooms of the college building are equipped with all kinds of modern technology and facilities, including multimedia and projectors. In each classroom of the college section the teachers use laptops and projectors to conduct the classes through beautiful sound system which is very beneficial to the students and they get a beautiful learning environment.
There is a tidy, sophisticated, well-furnished rooms for teachers where teachers can sit and do their work very comfortably. The entire college campus is covered by CCTV and it helps to maintain discipline. As the college is located inside Dhaka Cantonment, the students, teachers and parents feel maximum security and there is always a beautiful atmosphere of friendship and brotherhood. A significant aspect of this college is that it has a rich writers club and language club where writing is practiced regularly and there is a great opportunity for students to develop their latent talents. There is a business club for the students of Business Studies. Regular activities of Business Club are held and through which students can share different types of ideas related to their education and get various instructions for building their career. There is a math club to develop students' mathematical skills and this club helps students to acquire different mathematical techniques. One of the good side of this institute is that it has a wonderful system for counseling the students and through this counseling all the students who have various problems get a chance to get rid of it. The college holds regular meetings of teachers and parents to improve the quality of education and at the same time create a conducive environment.
Every year the college organizes study tour which improves a beautiful bond among teachers and students. The college has an alumni association that has maintained good relations with the college at various times and is working hard to create a harmonious bond between students and teachers. Although the college is located in Dhaka city, it has a large playground where students can play regularly and at the same time there are different types of play equipments for the students. An aesthetic Morning Assembly is held every morning on the spacious college grounds. 50 years ago this college started its journey on a limited scale but now this college is a big college and its reputation has spread across the country. This institution is one of the best educational institutions in Bangladesh in all respects. As a teacher of this institution, I wish its continued prosperity.
