The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government on Sunday appointed BNP leaders as new administrators of 42 zila parishads across the country, pursuing its move to place new administrators at local government bodies.
The appointments have been made with the aim of strengthening the local government system and accelerating development activities, according to information shared by the prime minister’s press wing.
As per the press wing, the government expects that the administrative activities of the zila parishad will become more dynamic and effective as a result of the decision.
Mohammad Touhidul Islam has been appointed the administrator of Panchagarh Zila Parishad, while Mofazzal Hossain Dulal was made administrator of Dinajpur and Mohammad Saiful Islam of Rangpur, as per the information.
In Kurigram, Sohel Hosnain Kaykobad has been appointed the administrator, while Syed Moinul Hasan Sadiq was assigned to Gaibandha and Masud Rana Pradhan to Jaipurhat.
At Bogura Zila Parishad, AKM Ahasanul Tayeb Zakir has been appointed administrator, Harunur Rashid at Chapainawabganj, Abu Bakar Siddique at Naogaon, and Ershad Ali at Rajshahi Zila Parishad.
Rahim Newaz was made administrator in Natore, Javed Masud in Meherpur, Sohrab Uddin in Kushtia, Abul Majid in Jhenaidah, and Delwar Hossain Khan Khokon in Jashore.
Ali Ahmed was appointed in Magura, Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain in Bagerhat, and SM Monirul Hasan (Bappi) in Khulna.
In Barishal division, administrators include Snehanashu Sarkar in Patuakhali, Golam Nabi Alamgir in Bhola, Akon Kuddusur Rahman in Barishal, Shahadat Hossain in Jhalakathi and Alamgir Hossain in Pirojpur.
In Tangail, SM Obaidul Haque was appointed administrator, while ABM Mamunur Rashid was assigned to Sherpur. Syed Emran Saleh has been made administrator in Mymensingh, Nuruzzaman in Netrokona and Khaled Saifullah Sohel Khan in Kishoreganj Zila Parishad.
In Munshiganj, AKM Iradat has been appointed administrator, Mamun Mahmud in Narayanganj and Abdus Salam Mia in Rajbari.
Sharif Rafique Uzzaman has been appointed in Gopalganj, Khondkar Mashukur Rahman in Madaripur and Sardar AKM Nasir Uddin in Shariatpur.
In Sylhet division, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury has been appointed in Sunamganj, Abul Kaher Chowdhury in Sylhet and Mizanur Rahman in Moulvibazar.
Sirajul Islam has been appointed administrator in Brahmanbaria, Moshtak Mia in Cumilla, Harunur Rashid Azad in Noakhali, Sahab Uddin in Lakshmipur and ATM Nurul Bashar Chowdhury in Cox’s Bazar.
After the fall of the Awami League regime on August 5, 2024 amid a student led mass uprising, the interim government appointed administrators on August 19, 2024, in all zila parishads except the three hill districts.
At that time, additional divisional commissioners (general) were given the responsibility in districts that host divisional headquarters, while deputy commissioners served as administrators in other districts.
After the formation of the government by the BNP on February 17 following a landslide victory in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, the Tarique Rahman-led government has begun replacing top officials of the local government bodies with party leaders.
Earlier, on March 14 and February 13, the BNP-government appointed BNP leaders as administrators in 11 city corporations in the country in two phases.
