Protesting students, teachers and staffs of Jagannath University on Friday evening suspended their protest demonstrations in front of the Kakrail Mosque police barricade near the chief adviser’s official residence Jamuna in Dhaka after University Grants Commission of Bangladesh chairman assured them of fulfilling their demands.
Addressing protesters in front of the barricade, the UGC chairman SMA Faiz urged students to have patience and to return to their classrooms as the UGC along with the education ministry and finance ministry was working to solve the issues in the JnU.
Protesting students and teachers, who began hunger strike on Friday afternoon, broke their hunger strike after the assurance at about 7:45pm.
The JnU vice-chancellor Rezaul Karim informed the protesters about the decisions taken in an inter-ministerial meeting with the representatives of the university administration and teachers’ association.
