Four Bangladeshis travelling from Dubai in separate flights were arrested at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Friday night and Saturday with some 6.95 kilograms.
The Armed Police Battalion officials said that Ali Hossain was travelling from Dubai on a US-Bangla flight on Saturday morning, while Jashim Uddin, Litu Miah and Mohammad Jumman Khan were travelling from the same destination on an Emirates flight landed at about 11:00pm on Friday.
The National Security Intelligence, Customs and the Armed Police Battalion jointly conducted the search, and detained them and seized the gold worth Tk 7 crore.
The APBn additional police superintendent, Mohammad Ziaul Haque, on Saturday said that after searching, they took the suspects to a diagnostic centre in the capital’s Uttara, and x-rayed them to determine the gold.
Ziaul Haque said that they were carrying the gold on their rectums, adding that separate cases were filed against them with the Airport police station.
