The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Thursday filed a formal charge against eight individuals, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case over the alleged staged raid by law enforcers that left nine people dead.
Other prominent accused include former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah and former head of the police's Special Branch Monirul Islam.
ICT prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed the matter to media.
Earlier, on March 24, 2025, ICT-1 showed AKM Shahidul Haque, Asaduzzaman Miah and the then assistant commissioner (AC) of DMP's Mirpur Zone Jasim Uddin Mollah, arrested in the case.
According to the prosecution, members of different units of the DMP and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at a house locally known as "Jahajbari" in the capital's Kalyanpur area on July 26, 2016.
Subsequently, allegations surfaced that the raid was staged and that the nine individuals killed, who were branded as militants, had no links to militancy. It was further alleged that they had been in police custody for a long time and were shot dead from close range.
Following the incident, then IGP AKM Shahidul Haque visited the spot and claimed that the deceased were members of the banned militant outfit Neo-Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (Neo-JMB).
