The government has urged people not to panic, saying Bangladesh has sufficient fuel stocks despite public concerns over the ongoing war in the Middle East.

Two vessels carrying fuel are scheduled to arrive in the country on March 9, said Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.

Speaking to reporters outside the Prime Minister’s Office today, he said there was no shortage of fuel and urged people not to crowd filling stations.

His comments came as motorists across the country rushed to buy fuel amid fears that the conflict could disrupt global energy supplies.

“We have enough stock of all types of fuel. There is no reason for people to be concerned,” the minister said.

He added that the government had informed the prime minister about the situation and was monitoring developments closely.

Authorities are also considering alternative fuel sources to avert any possible future crisis, he said.

The minister said mobile courts would begin operating from Sunday to ensure proper fuel distribution and prevent public suffering.
