Around 70 political parties, including the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP), submitted applications to the Election Commission seeking official registration ahead of the next election. The NCP, in its application, requested that the Water Lily (Shapla) -- Bangladesh's national flower -- be assigned as its electoral symbol. It also demanded a reconstitution of the EC currently led by AMM Nasir Uddin. NCP Convenor Nahid Islam said, "We have not only fulfilled the EC's conditions but exceeded them. NCP has formed committees in 105 upazilas and 25 districts."

Meanwhile the EC reinstated Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's party symbol Daripalla (balance scale) as its official election symbol. A circular was issued to this effect signed by the EC's Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed. The Appellate Division, on June 1 this year, cleared the way for the Jamaat to get back its registration with the Election Commission as a political party.

The Commission on Enforced Disappearances in its interim report said they found "internal dissent" within security forces alongside foreign links as they studied the cases. The report pointed out several incidents where the security personnel handling victims of enforced disappearance expressed their dissent often exposing them to adverse personal and professional consequences. It also found the enforced disappearances in Bangladesh were not isolated acts of wrongdoing when "international enablers" played "decisive roles" as well alongside Bangladesh's security forces.

It said the result of politicised institutional machinery condoned, normalised, and often rewarded such crimes while officials who dissented often faced punitive actions. The report cited an example of an unnamed officer who complained that his independent views and refusal to toe the official line on enforced disappearance led him to systematic isolation from his colleagues. The report said the then-prime minister was made aware of these attitudes, with concerned authorities forwarding her informal notes from the officers.

Former Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Huda was detained from his Uttara residence in the capital, after police said some people created a mob. Earlier in the day, the BNP filed a complaint against 24 people, including three former chief election commissioners (CECs) on allegations of conducting farcical elections. Within a few hours of filing the complaint, the incident of mob attack at the residence of KM Nurul Huda took place.

A video of the incident is making the rounds on social media. It shows a group of people creating a mob entering the residence of KM Nurul Huda. They threw eggs at him and assaulted him physically. Nurul Huda acted as the CEC during the 11th parliamentary election in 2018, known as the 'midnight election'. A court granted four-day remand in the case lodged for allegedly manipulating the national election. Others accused in the case include ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, and senior officials of the police and intelligence agencies.
