Leaders of Jatiya Party on Monday at a commemoration meeting said that the role of the party founder, Hussain Muhammad Ershad, would be remembered for his contribution to building a developed Bangladesh.
Their statement came at a meeting organised at a hotel in Gulshan in Dhaka city to mark the 6th anniversary of death of the military dictator.
The Jatiya Party faction led by Anisul Islam Mahmud organised the commemoration event that, in a rare instance, had the leaders of two other factions present as guests.
At the meeting, chaired by Anisul Islam Mahmud, Jatiya Party-JP faction president Anwar Hossain Monju spoke about the role Ershad played in the country’s socio-economic progress.
Anisul Islam Mahmud said that they would form such a Jatiya Party that would work for establishing the ideals of the party founder.
Central leaders of Raushan Ershad-led faction Kazi Firoz Rashid and Syed Abu Hossain Babla also attended the meeting on invitation.
Anwar Hossain Monju-led faction’s secretary general Sheikh Shahidul Islam, and Anisul Islam Mahmud-led faction leaders ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, Mujibul Haque Chunnu and Jahirul Islam Jahir, among others, also spoke at the commemoration meeting.
Jatiya Party is divided in six factions now. Other factions of the party also organised separate programmes to remember the party founder on the day.
