BNP Chairperson and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended a training workshop for newly elected MPs of the BNP, who won the 13th national parliamentary election, on its second day at the party’s Gulshan office in Dhaka.
Tarique Rahman joined the program at around 10:15am on Saturday.
He inaugurated the workshop on Friday and also sat among the trainees. His only daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman, who attended the opening session, also participated again on Saturday.
On Friday, ministers, state ministers and advisers attended the morning session, while MPs from parts of the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka and Faridpur divisions took part in the afternoon session.
On Saturday morning, MPs from Dhaka district, Mymensingh, Faridpur and the remaining areas of Dhaka division joined the workshop. MPs from Sylhet, Comilla and Chittagong divisions are scheduled to participate in the afternoon session.
According to BNP sources, the workshop is providing guidance on parliamentary procedures such as raising points of order, drafting and reviewing bills, participating in debates, presenting local issues in parliament and discussing the president’s speech. It also focuses on ensuring MPs’ attendance during parliamentary sessions.
The training also highlights the responsibilities of MPs, parliamentary conventions for cabinet members and strategic approaches to effectively run ministries.
Experienced former bureaucrats, academics and former MPs are serving as trainers in the workshop.
Senior leaders present include Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Salahuddin Ahmed, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Zahir Uddin Swapan, Nurul Islam Moni and Khairul Kabir Khokon, among others.
In the 13th parliamentary election, the BNP secured 209 seats, with 146 MPs entering parliament for the first time.
Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atiqur Rahman Ruman said the initiative was taken because many newly elected MPs lack experience in parliamentary rules and procedures.
Meanwhile, President Mohammad Shahabuddin has summoned the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on March 12 at 11 am. The intensive training programme has been arranged ahead of the session to prepare newly elected MPs and ministers.
