Chattogram City Mayor Shahadat Hossain has said the city has been cleared of waste from Eid-ul-Azha animal sacrifices by 6pm.
On Friday, he said about 10,000 tonnes of waste were removed from the city, reports bdnews24.com.
Shahadat said, “All employees of our cleaning department have worked tirelessly since this morning.
“Since 8am, 4,200 workers operating 369 vehicles including dump trucks, compactors, and pay loaders have been collecting waste around the neighbourhoods.
“The sacrifice sites were cleaned with water and bleaching powder. All sacrificial waste in the city was removed by 6pm.”
He also said if waste is spotted anywhere and reported to the Dampara control room, the authorities are taking prompt action to remove it.
“Since some areas of Chattogram have a tradition of sacrificing animals in the afternoon, specific measures have been undertaken to ensure the swift removal of the wastes.
“Many also sacrifice animals the day after Eid, and we will also take care of the waste produced then.”
The mayor requested citizens to report waste spotted anywhere in the city after 8pm to the control room by dialling: 02333389122, 02333389121 or 01894-883005, 01811-803666, 01761-426371.
