Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed stated that political uncertainty and challenges relating to law and order would continue to pose major obstacles for the interim government until the next general election was held, enabling a smooth transition of power to an elected government.
According to him, both law and order and political unrest emerged as major challenges immediately after the current advisers assumed responsibility for running the government on 8 August 2024—three days after the Awami League government was ousted in the wake of a mass uprising.
Describing the fragile situation inherited from the previous regime, the senior economist highlighted the severe economic crisis marked by a collapsing banking sector plagued by deposit theft and capital flight, particularly involving the chairmen and directors of a dozen private banks.
