Karmasangsthan Bank has a default loan rate of only 3.68 percent, which is satisfactory compared to commercial or other banks, said Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur at a conference today.

"When the burden of non-performing loans in the country's banking sector is constantly increasing, the rate of non-performing loans at Karmasangsthan Bank is truly commendable," he said.

"Compared to other banks, Karmasangsthan Bank has done well," he added.

Mansur made the comments while speaking as a special guest at "Managers Conference-2025" organised by Karmasangsthan Bank at Bidyut Bhaban in the capital, according to a press release.

Pointing out that the success of Karmasangsthan Bank lies in its small loan programme, he said there were many challenges in this type of programme.

"Here, the interest rate is low, net income is low, and even availing deposits is not possible. Still, Karmasangsthan Bank is silently doing its job," he said.

Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed inaugurated the conference as the chief guest.

In his speech, Ahmed said the products of Karmasangsthan Bank were diverse. Effective monitoring of customers is also important, he said.

Assuring of providing necessary support to Karmasangsthan Bank, the finance adviser further said, "We lack resources, but the demand is high."

"We will support the bank from our side. Besides, I am getting a lot of response from donor organisations," he said.

Ahmed announced the launching of Karmasangsthan Bank's new loan programme, "Sancheeta", focusing on the financial inclusion and economic empowerment of women. He also distributed loan cheques among entrepreneurs.

AFM Matiur Rahman, chairman of the bank, chaired the conference.

Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, secretary to the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance, Nazma Mobarek, secretary to Financial Institutions Division, and Gazi Md Saifuzzaman, director general of the Department of Youth Development, were present as special guests.
