Progress Motors Imports Limited (PMIL), the company behind Bangladesh's first public electric vehicle (EV) charging network "Ekhon Charge," has launched its second high-speed DC fast-charging station in Cumilla, marking another step in expanding the country's EV infrastructure.

Located at Kabab Express in Cheora, Chauddagram—adjacent to the Dhaka-Chattogram highway—the new 180kW station is expected to support long-distance EV travel on one of Bangladesh's busiest transport routes. It can charge compatible vehicles in as little as 25 minutes, significantly reducing the time required for on-the-go charging.

This development follows the opening of Ekhon Charge's first station in Tejgaon, Dhaka, and is part of PMIL's broader strategy to invest in green mobility solutions across the country. Both stations are funded solely by the company.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior representatives of PMIL, including Abdus Salam Toton (Senior Manager, Admin), Rakat Zahan Ahmed Shahrin (Manager, Supply Chain & Operations), and Md. Sohag Khan (Manager, HR & Admin).

The event also marked the beginning of a formal collaboration with BYD Bangladesh, which has designated Ekhon Charge as its official charging partner. This partnership will allow BYD EV users access to all current and future Ekhon Charge stations nationwide. Methun Bhattacharjee (Head of Network Development), Fahmid Ferdous (Head of Sales), and Mozzammel Huq (Head of Service) represented BYD Bangladesh at the launch.

Ekhon Charge's infrastructure is supported by a proprietary mobile app—available on iOS and Android—that allows users to locate stations, initiate and monitor charging sessions, view usage in real time, and pay digitally. The station supports all CCS2-compliant EVs and is part of PMIL's inclusive approach to electric mobility.

Beyond public stations, PMIL offers a selection of AC chargers from international partners including Siemens, Volttic, Aurora, and TBEA, which are available for residential, office, and commercial installations through the Ekhon Charge platform.

Looking ahead, PMIL plans to expand its fast-charging network into northern and eastern regions, and to install units in shopping malls, resorts, and entertainment hubs to support a more integrated and accessible green transport system.
