‘72 Ghanta’ poster| Collected

Chorki, in collaboration with Storyline Movies, is set to release Soumitra Chatterjee’s unreleased film “72 Ghanta” on November 25.

The official poster for the upcoming film, helmed by National Film Award winning director Atanu Ghosh, was unveiled on the first death anniversary of Bengal's most celebrated actor.

“An old man commits suicide by jumping before a running train. In the next 72 hours, six stories unfold one after another. Curiously interlinked, each story is born out of a chance encounter between two strangers leading to a high voltage drama with a strange twist at the end. The context varies drastically and so does the genre - from psychological thriller to intense drama to hilarious comedy, concerning some dominant issue of contemporary society and human life,” reads the official synopsis.

The cast also features Ritwick Chakraborty, Indrani Halder, Sudipta, Paran Bandopadhyay and others in pivotal roles.

Soumitra Chatterjee, who passed away on November 15, 2020, was best-known for his acclaimed collaborations with filmmaker Satyajit Ray.

He made his debut in Ray's 1959 film Apur Sansar, part of the acclaimed Pather Panchali trilogy. He was also directed by Satyajit Ray in Charulata, Devi, Teen Kanya, Ghare Baire, Ganashatru and other films.

Soumitra Chatterjee's extensive list of awards and honours includes the Padma Bhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna. He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award - India's top film honour - in 2012.

He was the winner of three National Awards for his performances in the films Antardhan, Dekha, and Padokkhep. In 2018, he received the Legion of Honour by France, the country's top civilian award. In 1989, Satyajit Ray had also received the same award.
