As part of the ongoing efforts to curb illegal gas usage and recover outstanding dues, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC conducted coordinated drives on Thursday in several areas of Dhaka and Narayanganj and disconnected hundreds of illegal gas connections.
On the day, a special operation was conducted by Titas Gas Metro Dhaka sales division-5 in various areas of Kamrangirchar.
During the drive, illegal gas connections used for commercial purposes in five Khanaduli factories were disconnected.
In addition, action was taken after confirmation of illegal gas use was found in two residential connections in Khanaduli. Later, 6300 CFT of illegal load was disconnected. A large amount of illegal equipment was seized during the drive.
In the operation conducted in Hatabo area of Narayanganj, distribution lines were dismantled at three spots. Approximately 670 illegal gas connections were disconnected in 670 houses.
Out of this, illegal connections were identified and disconnected in an area of about one kilometre in City market, Hatabo, Atlapur and Machumabad areas.
Under Metro Dhaka sales division-1, operations were conducted at four spots in Siddhirganj, Chattogram Road in Narayanganj and Paiti, Paradgar and Konapara areas of Demra.
Forty-three stoves were disconnected in the operation and 2200 CFT load was cut. In this operation, about 800 feet of pipes of different sizes, nine regulators, eight burners and numerous equipment were seized.
Additionally, the source points of illegal gas connections of four commercial establishments were destroyed in the operation in Taltala, Amtala and Jalkuri areas of Narayanganj.
Moreover, an illegal distribution line was disconnected from which about Gas was being used illegally in 650 stoves in 200 houses.
During the mobile court, the owners of the four establishments were fined Tk 1,00,000 each and the fine was collected immediately.
In order to prevent energy waste and encourage everyone to use gas legally, the drives in the relevant areas were led by executive magistrate Monija Khatun, executive magistrate of Abibi-Rupganj zone Saikat Raihan, executive magistrate of the ministry of power, energy and mineral resources Simon Sarkar and executive magistrate of Narayanganj Milton Roy.
