The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has withdrawn the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station following allegations surrounding the assault of Bangladesh national cricketer Nayeem Hasan by members of Khulshi Police Station.

The decision was made last night following huge criticism due to his alleged involvement in the assault.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Solaiman, the OC of Bakalia Police Station, has been assigned to take charge of Khulshi Police Station.

The development comes a day after Nayeem Hasan alleged that he had been detained and physically assaulted by individuals identifying themselves as members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in the Lalkhan Bazar area of Chattogram while returning home from a Dhaka Premier League match.

The player also alleged that OC Arif asked him to keep mum when BCB President Tamim Iqbal phoned OC regarding the incident.

Confirming the transfer, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Faisal Ahmed said OC Arif has been transferred from the police station and attached to the Police Lines.

Earlier, two policemen were suspended over the assault and harassment of Bangladesh spinner Nayeem Hasan in Chattogram, while CMP expressed regret and apologised over the incident.

CMP Commissioner Shawkat Ali said this while visiting Nayeem at his residence in the Chandgaon area of Chattogram yesterday morning.

Shawkat said responsibility for any unprofessional conduct rests with the individuals involved and the police force would not take responsibility for such actions.
