Japan has extended its support to expanding low-cost eye care services for underprivileged communities in Gaibandha and adjoining districts, aiming to strengthen the region’s healthcare system and improve the quality of life for vulnerable people.
The support came while representatives of the Japanese embassy in Dhaka first secretary Karasawa Shinju and second secretary Makiguchi Yasuyuki visited Gaibandha on Tuesday to attend the inauguration of the ‘Project for Procurement of Eye Care Equipment for SKS Eye Hospital,’ said a release.
‘I hope this project will contribute to improving eye care services in Gaibandha and nearby districts, helping people reduce their sufferings from eye-related ailments,’ Karasawa said during the inauguration ceremony.
The newly procured equipment would enable SKS Eye Hospital to provide affordable eye care services to low-income patients, thereby enhancing medical services in the targeted areas, officials said.
Since 1989, Japan has supported 221 NGO projects across Bangladesh under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects to promote economic and social human security at the grassroots level.
The total value of these Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects grants has reached approximately $ 17.5 million, reflecting Japan’s continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s healthcare and social development sectors.
