Police recovered the bodies of two children from a pond in Savar's Ashulia this morning, around 16 hours after they went missing.

The bodies were found around 9am in Ashulia's Baipail.

The dead were identified as Limon Hossain, 11, son of Ratan Mia from Aminpur upazila in Pabna, and Manik Hossain, 9, son of Ziaul Hossain from Madarganj upazila in Jamalpur.

Both children lived with their families in a rented house in Baipail and were students at a local madrasa.

Md Shahinur Kabir, additional superintendent of police for Savar circle, said the boys were last seen playing in a nearby field around 5:30pm yesterday. When they did not return home, their families began searching for them.

Locals spotted the bodies floating in a pond this morning and informed police, who later recovered them.

The cause of death was not immediately known.

"It's still unclear whether they drowned while bathing or if there was foul play. The exact cause will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination," Shahinur said.
