The Rapid Action Battalion seized 1.90 lakh yaba from a truck’s fuel chamber and arrested three persons in this connection in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Saturday night.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab 3 intercepted the truck in Jatrabari and recovered the consignment hidden in a special chamber of the fuel tank, said RAB media wing director Khandaker Al Moin at a briefing on Sunday.

The arrestees are Aminul Islam, Nurul Islam and Hedayet Ullah.

The yaba consignment was from Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar and was supposed to be distributed in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Tangail, according to the official.

Truck owner Sohel is the kingpin of the racket, which has been involved in smuggling yaba from Cox’s Bazar to different parts of the country using various means for four to five years, Moin said.

This consignment in the fuel chamber was supposed to reach Gazipur, he added.

The yaba smuggling ring has seven-eight members, the RAB official said, adding that Sohel and Aminul collected yaba from Teknaf-based smugglers, and later they created a chamber in the fuel tank and hid the items there.

The ring used to get Tk 40,000 to Tk 50,000 for the delivery of each consignment, added Moin.
