Jatiya Krishak Samity and Bangladesh Khetmajur Union on Wednesday at a press conference called on the government to buy the Aman rice directly from the farmers to protect them from incurring losses.

The two organisations jointly organised the press conference at Workers’ Party office at Topkhana in Dhaka.

Krishak Samiti general secretary Aminul Islam Golap  said, ‘the government should set up rice procurement centres in every upazila to ensure the fair price of Aman rice.’

He said that farmers incurred losses last year as they did not get fair price.

He also called for special measures for the farmers and farm labourers of the country’s cyclone-hit areas to help them recover from the damages.

The organisations also announced their upcoming programmes. The programmes include rallies, formation of human chains and submission of petition to the prime minister.

In December, they will hold demonstrations of farmers and farm labourers in the country’s northern and the southern regions.

Farmers’ and farm labourers’ leaders Anisur Rahman Mollick, Mahmudul Hasan Manik, Hazi Bashirul Alam, Zakir Hossain Raju, Karam Ali and Mostafa Alamgir Ratan attended the press conference.
