A group of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, occupied a room allocated to a campus journalist at Habibur Rahman Hall of Rajshahi University.
The victim Sakib Al Hossain, a masters’ student of law department, works with Daily Asian Age as Rajshahi University Correspondent.
Sakib, also vice-president of Rajshahi University Press Club, told New Age the hall authority had recently allotted him room 224 at the hall. ‘Several BCL activists led by Minhazul islam obstructed me from entering my allocated room on Monday night’, he added.
Sakib said the BCL activists threw away his baggage from the room. He said Minhaz was accused of seat-business occupying many seats in the hall illegally and taking ‘rent’ from the individuals.
Later, RU BCL president Golam Kibria and general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu, and hall provost Zahidul Islam went to the hall and held an-hour meeting, but left with no solution.
Minhaz told New Age that he came to know that a seat had been vacant at room 224 and went to board a student there. ‘I did not know that the hall authority have allocated the room to another student’, he added.
BCL president Golam Kibria suggested talking to hall provost Zahidul Islam about the matter.
Provost Zahidul Islam told New Age on Wednesday that they solved the problem after talking with the both the parties.
