The 67-year-old lawmaker is receiving treatment at his Jamalpur residence, according to family sources

The Member of Parliament of Jamalpur-2 constituency, Faridul Haque Khan Dulal has been tested positive for Covid-19 infection, pushing the tally of cases among local Awami League leaders to four in the district.

“Jamalpur-2 constituency, Islampur’s MP Faridul's test results came back positive along with 16 other people from the same area on Wednesday,” said Upazila Health Officer Dr Abu Taher quoting Civil Surgeon Dr Pranay Kanti Das of the district.

The 67-year-old lawmaker is receiving treatment at his Jamalpur residence, according to family sources.

At least 17 of the 53 new cases reported in the district on Wednesday were from Islampur upazila and their tests were done in the PCR lab at Mymensingh Medical College, said the health official.

Also, Islampur Upazila Awami League General Secretary Abdus Salam, Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Abdul Khaleque and Rozina Akhter have also been infected, added Dr Abu Taher.

At least 307 people in Jamalpur have tested positive for the virus and four others have died until now, while 132 patients have recovered from the disease, said the district administration sources.
