Mirzapur police arrested a fugitive convict in an arms case after 27 years of his conviction.

The law enforcers arrested Abdul Wadud, 52, son of Mohammad Shajahan of Chamari Fotepur village, from Savar Bus Stand area on Sunday night.

Wadud was a fugitive convict in a case filed under Arms Act with Mirzapur Police Station in 1993.

Police arrested Wadud with a firearm in February 1993, but later he went into hiding after securing bail from a court.

The same year, a Tangail court sentenced Wadud to seven years rigorous imprisonment in his absentia.

Meanwhile, a court in Tangail sent Wadud to jail after police produced him before it yesterday, Sub Inspector of Mirzapur Police Station Mohammad Mozibor Rahman said.
