Renowned actress Afsana Mimi has recently become the victim of online impersonation, prompting her to alert fans and colleagues about a fake Facebook account operating under her name for more than two weeks. The acclaimed actress, who last received praise for her performance in the film "Utshob", stated that she has no presence on any social media platform.
Industry insiders report that someone posing as "Afsana Karim Mimi" has been sending friend requests to members of the entertainment industry and messaging people through Messenger. The activity has raised concerns about the misuse of her identity, especially as the fake profile continues to target individuals within the cultural sphere.
Speaking to Prothom Alo, Afsana Mimi said, "This is fake. I do not use any form of social media. I don't know who is doing this." Her friends, well-wishers, and relatives have also confirmed the situation, noting that the account in her name is entirely false and appears to be used to create a misleading identity.
Although incidents of impersonation on Facebook and other social media platforms are not uncommon, such fake accounts often create confusion among the public and can at times lead to reputational harm.
