Two more staffers of Mayur-2 launch that hit and sank another vessel in Buriganga River on June 29, killing at least 34 persons, were arrested this morning.

A team of River Police arrested engine driver Shipon Hawlader, 45, and driver Shakil Hasan, 28, from Dhaka's Sutrapur area around 10:45am, said Farida Parvin, additional superintendent (Media) of River Police.

With them, five persons were so far arrested in connection with the launch capsize. The accused were charged with negligence causing deaths.

Earlier, law enforcers arrested Mayur-2 owner and prime accused Mosaddek Hanif Swad, master Abul Bashar Molla, and supervisor Abdus Salam from different areas.

According to River Police, Bashar was in the launch but sukani (launch staff) Nasir Mridha was driving the vessel when it hit another launch Morning Bird on that day.

Most of the 34 victims, who drowned in the river, are from Munshiganj district.

Three other accused -- master Jakir Hossain, 54, sukani (launch staff) Nasir Mridha, 40, and Ridoy, 24 -- are still on the run.
