Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Japan from May 28-31 at the official invitation of Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe.

Japan and Bangladesh will sign bilateral agreements of $2.5 billion during the PM's visit, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said at a briefing at the ministry today.

The premier, during a meeting with Shinzo Abe, is expected to seek Japan’s assistance in addressing the Rohingya crisis, the minister said.

Upon completion of her visit to Japan, PM Hasina will fly to Makkah from Tokyo on May 31 to join the 14th Summit of The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), he said.

During a ministry-level ad-hoc meeting at the OIC, led by Gambia, it is expected that the process of filing a case with the International Court of Justice on the violation of human rights of the Rohingya nationals in Myanmar's Rakhine will be in motion, the foreign minister said.

Several meetings between PM Hasina and other head of states are expected to take place on the sidelines of the OIC summit, he added.
