The Indian home ministry will implement the project with the assistance of its Department of Space

India will soon launch an exclusive satellite dedicated to ensuring the security of the country’s borders. This will also help them in various aspects of border management.

Under the five-year project to use space technology to improve border management, the Indian Space Research Organization is going to launch a satellite for exclusive use by the Indian Home Ministry, reports The Times of India.

Minister of Home Affairs of India Rajnath Singh has approved a taskforce’s recommendation about deploying the satellite as well as planning operations, The Indian Home Ministry disclosed on Thursday.

In the short term, the immediate needs of the country’s Border Guarding Forces will be met by procuring high-resolution imagery and hiring bandwidth for communications.

Over the long term, ground segments will be developed, as well as network infrastructure, to share satellite resources by user agencies. A central archival facility will also be developed to store imagery resources; and disseminate the same to user agencies.

India’s home ministry will implement the project with the assistance of its Department of Space. This project will strengthen island and border security; and facilitate infrastructure development in border and island areas.
