New Zealand, a top ranked country in terms of ease of doing business, wants to help Bangladesh improve business climate that is seeking to attract more foreign investment.

Joanna Mary Kempkers, non-resident high commissioner of New Zealand to Dhaka, said her country is keen to engage more with Bangladesh economically.

She expects a business delegation from Bangladesh to New Zealand in November for exploring trade and investment opportunities.

The diplomat said this while paying a farewell courtesy call on Foreign Minister Abdul Momen at the foreign ministry in the capital today.

Momen told her that since 2009, Bangladesh’s GDP expanded by 188 percent, making a record of the highest economic growth among a list of the 26 countries in the last 10 years.

Joanna lauded Bangladesh’s socio-economic development in recent years, with significant reduction in maternal and child mortality rates, poverty alleviation, and sustained high economic growth.

Momen requested Joanna to help reduce the trade gap between Bangladesh and New Zealand, which remains in favour of New Zealand.

The minister also requested New Zealand’s support to create pressure on Myanmar for speedy repatriation of the Rohingyas sheltered in Bangladesh.
