The deceased HSC examinee was kidnapped on Monday and the accused people later killed him for a ransom of Tk50,00,000

Police arrested at least two people for their reported involvement in the kidnap and murder of a college student in Abhaynagar upazila, Jessore.

The arrestees are identified as Rifat Hossain Ayush, 18, and Abdur Razzak, 50.

The deceased, Gazi Babur, 20, a Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinee, was kidnapped on Monday.

The kidnappers made a call to the family using Babur’s mobile phone and asked for a ransom of  Tk50,00,000, the case statement says.

“Acting on the case filed on Wednesday, we sought help from the IT department of police to investigate the incident, said Abhaynagar police station, OC Tajul Islam.

“We managed to track down the deceased's phone and later arrested the two accused from Abhaynagar and Jhenaidah. From their confession , we recovered Babur’s dead body from a canal of the upazila,” the OC added.

Both the accused, Ayush and Razzak, said they killed Babur on the very night they kidnapped him and confessed to their crimes, said OC Tajul explaining the incident.
