Sculpting of idols of goddess Durga continues in full swing, making artisans busy, as preparations are afoot to celebrate the upcoming Durga Puja, the greatest Hindu religious festival in the country.

An idol of Durga, about 21 feet tall, has been erected in Bahrampur area of the district. Every day , hundreds of people throng the area to watch the sculpting of the idol.
The artisans are busy decorating the Durga idols in the best possible ways, to be installed in the pandals where the public will come in large numbers to pay obeisance to the goddess, said local sources.
Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman said a total of 426 puja mandaps will be made to celebrate the festival this year.
Members of law enforcers have been kept alert to ensure the festivities happening peacefully, he added.
In Tangail, Preparations for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Hindus, are going on in full swing in Tangail.
With the festival inching closer, the artisans are now passing a busy time, making the clay images of Goddess Durga, and others.
A total of 1,214 puja mandaps will be made to celebrate the festival.

A preparatory meeting was held yesterday in Tangail town for the occasion.
Among others, Sanowar Hossain MP, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mosarraf Hossain, UNO Subrata Kumar Shikder, and Additional Superintend of Police Shafiqul Islam were present in the meeting with Deputy Commissioner Shahidul Islam in the chair.
In Rangpur, Acting President of Rangpur district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP), Ajay Prasad Babon yesterday informed the national news agency that over 952 Durga Puja mandaps are being erected across the district this year.
Of them, 164 Durga Puja mandaps are being erected at different places under six police stations under the jurisdiction of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) this year, reports BSS.
“Preparations are continuing in full swing amid huge enthusiasm to celebrate the five-day Durga Puja festivities with due religious fervour, gaiety, and solemnity in Rangpur city, the three municipalities, and eight upazilas of the district,” Ajay said.
Beginning with the ‘Shosthi Puja’ from October 4 , the celebrations of the festival will end on October 8 through celebration of the Bijoya Dashami with immersion of the idols of goddess Durga.
In Khulna, Idol makers commonly known as Pauls are passing their busy days in making idols of Hindu deities ahead of Durga Puja festival in Khulna city and nine upazilas of the district. The Pauls are working round the clock to make sure that the idols are ready in time with only 17 days left beginning of the Durga Puja. The Pauls are hoping for better earnings this year as the number of Puja Mandaps has increased in the region.
Nirmal Chandra Paul, an idol maker of Dharmashova temple of the city said cost has gone up of the raw materials – clay, rope, straw, bamboo and jute needed to make the idols.
