Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader  on Monday said that coming 2018 is so crucial for the country as the next general election would be held in this year and country might face some untoward incidents in this year.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this at a programme of the Christian community ahead of the Christmas Day at Senpara Parbata in the city.

‘The religious minorities may face fresh attacks and repressions in this year before the national election and the extremist forces may behind the attacks, to tarnish the image of the government,’

Quader said.

He called on the religious minorities not to suffer any complexity as they were minorities and the constitution has ensured their equal rights as the citizen of the country.

The Awami League and the government of Sheikh Hasina would remain beside the minorities and protect them from any sorts of repressions and attacks, Quader assured.

He called on the minority communities to be united to resist any attack on them.

He also called on the religious majority Muslim community and the administration to stand beside the minorities from the attacks.
