Awami League and its associate bodies held processions in the capital’s Shahbagh and College Gate areas on Monday morning defying the ban on its activities.

At about 6:50am on Monday, AL leaders and activists under the banner of Dhaka-8 constituency brought out a protest procession from Shahbagh crossing to Katabon demanding cancellation of the trial against Bangladesh’s ousted prime minister and AL president Sheikh Hasina.


Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Khalid Mansur told New Age that they had detained one person from the procession by chasing them.

‘We are interrogating the arrested person,’ the OC added.

At about 9:30am on Monday, members of AL and its associate bodies, under the banner of Dhaka-13, brought out a procession in the capital’s College Gate area in Mohammadpur.

Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Ali Iftekhar Hasan said that they waited at different spots in the area after hearing the news of AL processions since early morning till 8:00am.

‘The Awami League leaders and activists brought out the procession at about 9:30am,’ he added.
