It is global cooperation that is at the heart of all possible strategies

Covid-19 continues to rage across the world and despite vaccination efforts, plenty of nations -- particularly developing ones -- continue to struggle with regard to curbing it.

With that in mind, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has correctly identified the need for collective effort from the whole of society in order to have a chance to mitigate the adverse impact the pandemic has had -- and will continue to have -- on global economies.

The PM put forward six salient points for a post-pandemic recovery, not just for Bangladesh, but for the entire world to follow. There is sound reasoning and logic employed in these six points -- which include addressing a wide spectrum of issues, from climate change to migrant workers to global equity, and it would do well for the world to pay heed to her words.

Ultimately, however, it is global cooperation that is at the heart of all possible strategies; this pandemic has painted a stark picture of inequality in the world, with the divide between the more affluent countries and the less fortunate clearer than ever before.

This divide is what must be bridged, and the PM rightfully looks towards the developed world to play their part in making this a reality. Not just for Covid, but beyond Covid, the world will be much better equipped to deal with global dangers such as pandemics if there was more collective action and eventually, global solidarity.

The Covid-19 pandemic will only end when every single country treats it as a global issue, and thinks of it as a global problem, not just one to safeguard its own citizens from.
