Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday said the Transparency International Bangladesh report on recent elections had hit the government and the Election Commission hard as the NGO had revealed the truth.
BNP’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with this remark a day after the information minister Hasan Mahmud condemned the report terming it politically motivated, poor in quality and biased in favour of BNP.
Chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Wednesday also rejected the report claiming it ‘baseless’.
Rizvi, during a news conference at the party’s central office in Dhaka on Thursday, said the report left no place for the ruling party MPs and ministers to hide their offences they committed during the elections.
He said their (ministers, EC) attempt to hide the truth through shouting would produce no benefit.
On Tuesday, the TIB released the study report on 11th parliamentary polls and found that the election to be partially participatory, non-competitive, questionable and faulty.
The Awami League grand alliance attained landslide victory securing 288 seats out of a total 299 seats in the 11th parliament poll marred by ‘fraud’ and ‘flaw’.
Its key opponent BNP dominated Jatiya Oikya Front got only eight seats.
Meanwhile, at the news briefing Rizvi announced two-day programme to observe 83rd anniversary of birth of the late president Ziaur Rahman, founder of BNP, to be observed on January 19.
Ziaur Rahman was born at Gabtoli in Bogura on 19 January in 1936 and was assassinated at Chattogram Circuit House on May 30 in 1981.
BNP will hold a discussion at Supreme Court Bar Association building auditorium at 2:30pm today and its leaders and activists would place wreaths at the grave of Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka at 10:00am on Saturday.
The party leaders, including Taimur Alam Khandaker, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee and Shamimur Rahman were present at the briefing.
