The number of arms, cars and business entities of incumbent lawmaker for Narayanganj-4 Shamim Osman, nominated by the ruling Awami League in the upcoming polls also, have increased in the past 10 years.

The information was obtained through analysing information of the affidavit submitted with the nomination papers of Shamim Osman for the 12th national election scheduled for January 7.

In 2018, he used a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 worth Tk 56 lakh, but now he also has a Toyota Land Cruiser worth Tk 81 lakh.

There was an NPB pistol worth Tk 35,000, but he has an NPB pistol worth Tk 1,50,000 and now he also has a 22-bore rifle worth Tk 1,20,000.

The Narayanganj-4 (Fatullah-Siddirganj) constituency lawmaker became the owner of agricultural land more than 12 times.

In the affidavit submitted for the 10th parliament election in 2014, he showed Tk 1,69,42,854 cash. He had Tk 2,41,73,000 movable property including 10 tola gold, share worth Tk 63.74 lakh in ZN Corporation.

According to the data of latest affidavits, his movable property has increased three times to Tk 7,98,63,000 in the 10 years.

He has shown an annual income of Tk 79.7 lakh in immovable property.  Apart from this, Shamim Osman has Tk 17.87 lakh in cash as movable property, Bank deposit Tk 73.30 lakh, value of 10,000 shares of ZN Corporation is Tk 1 crore, value of 95,000 shares in Maisha Enterprise Limited is Tk 95 lakh, and Tk 1.77 crore as partner of ZN Corporation.

This time as immovable property, Shamim owns 123 decimal agricultural land worth Tk 13.75 lakh, 10 decimal non-agricultural land worth Tk 5,750,000 a 10-katha land in Purbachal Rajuk New Town worth Tk 33.60 lakh and a two-storey residential house on 16 decimal land worth Tk 74.30 lakh.

He showed movable property worth Tk 7.98 crore including FDR worth Tk 2.49 crore and 38 tolas of gold in his name.

In this year’s affidavit, the AL candidate has shown a total loan of Tk 22.6 crore.

Shamim’s wife Salma Osman Lipi’s movable property worth Tk 1.86 crore was shown in her name including FDR of Tk 25 lakh. In her name, 40 tola of gold were shown as immovable property. Currently, she Tk 39.94 lakh deposited in IFIC bank.

Meanwhile, the wealth of AL lawmaker Nazrul Islam Babu of Narayanganj-2 constituency and his wife also increased over the past 15 years.

Nazrul, also the AL nominated candidate in the upcoming national polls, is a businessman by profession.

The affidavit of the AL lawmaker revealed a 42-fold increase in his non-agricultural land while his wife Saima Islam, who did not have any non-agricultural land in 2008, now owns 355 decimals of that worth Tk 95.62 lakh.

But as per his latest affidavit, Babu owns 361 decimals of non-agricultural land, now valued at Tk 2.05 crore, including a 10-katha plot in Purbachal Rajuk New Model Town valued at Tk 41 lakh, bringing his total property value to Tk 3.29 crore.

On the other hand, affidavits submitted to the returning officer by Awami League candidates Sagufta Yasmin for Munshiganj-2 and Mrinal Kanti for Munshiganj-3 constituencies have revealed that their asset have increased manifold since 2008 and annual income also doubled. 

Mrinal’s document shows that his asset has increased almost six folds since his election as MP for the first time in 2013. The two-tenure incumbent MP’s assets have increased from Tk 38.49 lakh to Tk 2.65 crore. 

The affidavit of AL candidate Sagufta Yasmin, Member of Parliament from the Munshiganj-2 constituency since 2009, reveals that her immovable assets valued Tk 2.56 crore.

The annual income of the former whip of the 9th National Parliament has also increased to Tk 35.36 lakh from Tk 11.18 lakh.

According to the affidavit, Mrinal’s movable and immovable assets have increased by more than Tk 2.26 crore. 

As shown in the affidavit, his movable assets have increased the most to Tk 2,12,70,358 from Tk 19,23,271, while  movable assets increased to Tk 52,01,868 from Tk 19,25,900.  

He has a flat in Dhanmondi, and a 7.5 Katha plot in Purbachal.  

His wife has 10.5 katha plot, and an under construction house in Mohammadpur.

His wife also has movable assets worth Tk 95,04,191, excluding 19.5 vori gold she possess.  

Besides, he has vehicle assets worth Tk 86.53 lakh.
