At least seven people, including the general secretary of the Pabna district unit of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, were injured in a clash between two groups during the by-election campaign of BNP at Ishwardi in Pabna on Monday afternoon.

Four of them were immediately admitted to Pabna General Hospital from where three were shifted to Dhaka in the evening as their condition deteriorated.

According to police and party sources, BNP central and district leaders took part in the election campaign of BNP candidate Habibur Rahman Habib on Monday and their lunch was arranged at Habib’s house. The two district BNP groups from Pabna, who were sitting next to the central leaders while giving food at around 4:00 pm, first locked in an altercation and then it turned into a clash.

 Himel Rana, 45, general secretary of the district Juba Dal unit, Saddam Hossain, 24, organising secretary of the district unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Sabbir Hossain, 22, assistant organising secretary and Ajmal Hossain Rana, 26, relief affair secretary of JCD were stabbed during the clash.

They were rushed to Pabna General Hospital before evening.

Saddam Hussein, Sabbir Hossain and Ajmal Hossain Rana were later transferred to Dhaka as their conditions deteriorated. Three more people injured in the incident were given first aid, party leaders and police said.

BNP central leader Aman Ullah Aman, joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, joint secretary general Nazim Uddin Alam, former BNP organising secretary and former minister Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu and former students of DU took part in the campaign.
