The central committee of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation today called upon its all workers to remain calm and run their vehicles without plunging commuters into suffering.

The federation came up with the call at a meeting held at Swadhinata Hall in Segunbagicha area of Dhaka with its President Shahjahan Khan MP in the chair.

The meeting discussed that the transport workers have created a stagnated situation by refraining from playing their vehicles after enforcement of the new road transport law which is unexpected.

The meeting observed that Bangladesh Road Transport Authority has created panic in the minds of the transport worker by its publicity activities.

Earlier, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that there is still scope to amend the Road Transport Act 2018.

Referring to the pledge, the meeting discussed that they would place proposals to bring the amendment to the Road Transport Act 2018 and they would urge the government to put its heed to the demands of the transport workers.

The Road Transport Act came into effect on November 1.

The Road Transport Bill 2018 was passed by parliament on September 19, 2018.

It kept a provision of maximum five years' jail for any death or serious injuries caused by reckless or negligent driving.
