Bangladesh finished seventh in the AHF Men’s Asian Indoor Hockey 2019 when they crushed Chinese Taipei 9-0 in a place-deciding match in Chonburion, Thailand on Saturday.

Ashraful Islam, Milon Hossain and captain Farhad Ahmed Shitul each scored a brace while Rasel Mahmud Jimi, Mainul Islam Koushik and Khorshedur Rahman netted one goal each for Bangladesh’s second win in their maiden appearance in an international indoor hockey event.

Ashraful opened the account for Bangladesh with a penalty corner in the fifth minute before Milon doubled the margin with a field goal in the 15th minute and Ashraful again scored from another penalty corner in the 18th minute.

Milon and Jimi made it 5-0 by scoring two successive goals in the 20th and 21st minute while Shitul scored first goal of the match five minutes later.

Mainul scored a field goal in the 28th minute to make it 7-0 while Shitul netted his second from a penalty corner in the 32nd minute before Khorshedur completed the rout a minute later. 

Mainul, who bagged a double hat-trick in Bangladesh’s 9-0 rout of Philippines on Wednesday, finished as the top goalscorer for his the country with eight goals.

Earlier, Bangladesh secured three points from four matches to finish fourth in five-team Pool A with one won and three defeats.

Bangladesh started their campaign with a 0-6 defeat against Malaysia before another 0-8 thumping against holders Iran. They tasted their first win against Philippines before losing the last game by 1-3 against hosts Thailand.
