The 48th battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh held a mass awareness programme in Companiganj border area in Sylhet on Tuesday.

Speakers at the programme emphasised the need for improving lifestyle of people living along the border area in the country to reduce border crimes.

BGB Sarail region additional director general Brigadier General Md Zakir Hossain chaired the programme that was addressed, among others, by additional district police superintendent, special branch, Aminul Islam, Companiganj upazila nirbahi officer Suman Acherya, Companiganj Upazila Parishad chairman Shamim Ahmad.

BGB Sylhet sector commander Colonel Mahmud Mawla Don, its 48 battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Yusuf Jamil and local dignitaries including union council chairmen and members attended the programme.

The speakers also said that incidents of killing and crimes along Sylhet border have increased in recent days as the incidents of illegal intruding and involvement in illegal activities have also increased there
