Bangladesh for the first time won gold in a competition titled ‘e-Asia Award-2019’ in the category of digital transformation in private sector.

The award giving ceremony was held at Swissotel of Bangkok in Thailand yesterday where global FinTech experts, investors, CIOs, CXOs and other technological decision makers from Asia were present.

Administered by Asia Pacific Council for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (AFACT), total of 24 countries and companies took part in the competition which was presented by D Money Bangladesh Ltd.

The event was organised with an aim to build awareness in digital transformation and promoting the achievement of AFACT in its member countries.

The purpose of the e-Asia award is to recognise the significance and great effort made within the AFACT communities and to encourage the exchange of best practices.

This year, the e-Asia awards were given in four categories---Trade Facilitation and e-Commerce, Digital Transformation in public and private sectors and Creating Inclusive Digital Opportunities.

D Money won in the Digital Transformation (Private Sector) category for its innovation and contribution in the tech ecosystem in Bangladesh.

D Money started its operation with an aim to address digital inclusion.

Since its inception, D Money has gained recognition globally for forming astounding partnerships and creating a benchmark in digital financial services in Bangladesh.

Sonia Bashir Kabir, co-founder and also vice-chairman and CEO of D Money, said, she felt proud and honoured for getting chance to represent Bangladesh globally.

Aref Bashir, co-founder and managing director of D Money expressed his gratitude for the recognition.

The e-Asia award was initiated by Chinese Taipei in 2002 and commenced its first contest in 2003.
