People from all works of life were visiting the five-day fish fair which began in the city’s Krishibid Institute Bangladesh on Friday.
During a visit to the fair on Sunday, the agency correspondent found that many people were visiting the fair to see the various fish species being showcased and many were buying fishes displayed at different stalls.
The Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock organised the Fish Fair, marking the National Fisheries Week.
A total of 24 stalls of government, non-government and online fish marketing institutions were participating in the fair with various fish projects.
Fresh and live fishes are being displayed at the fair.
‘We are selling Koi and Rui fish at Tk 160 per kg… Shing and Pabda at Tk 350 and 600 per kg respectively,’ said Hira-Mukta multi-purpose fish project owner Md Hazrat Ali Sarker.
Fry of shing, gulsha, tilapia, pabda, shol and fish feed were also being sold at the fair, he added.
A KIB official said that the fair will remain open for all from 10:00am to 9:00pm every day.
The National Fisheries Week began across the country on July 22 with a view to creating awareness among people for producing more fish through proper use of water-bodies and protecting indigenous fish species from extinction.
The slogan for this year was: ‘Bangabandhu’s country self-sufficient with fish’.
