Train services between Dhaka and Mymensingh resumed early today, three hours after a tree fell on the railway line during a storm.
The tree fell on the tracks near Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) area around 10:15pm last night, halting several trains on the route.
The Dhaka-bound Jamuna Express was stopped after its driver spotted the fallen tree following a storm on the tracks upon reaching the BAU area.
Confirming the incident, Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Railway Police Station, said train services resumed around 1:00am.
On receiving the information, personnel from Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene and removed the tree, clearing the tracks and restoring movement, he said.
Train operations returned to normal following clearance of the line, the OC added.
The obstruction caused multiple trains to remain stranded at different stations. The Dhaka-bound Agnibina Express was held at Mymensingh Railway Station, while the Dewanganj-bound Brahmaputra Express was stuck at Aulia Nagar Station in Mymensingh.
